She says a company the way a person would, not like a handle.

Ash“Sam Taylor — okay, funny one, I've actually got two of you. Are you @samtaylorfit, or @thesamtaylor?”

She responds to how he said it, not only to what he said.

Names like this trip up speech recognition. She takes a guess and checks it.

She owns the mistake in a few words and moves on.

Ash“All good. You're checked in, run sheet's on its way to WhatsApp now…”

Ash“Last thing — what should I put on your badge?”

Ash“Jess Carmody — let me have a look, give us a sec…”

Ash“Okay Jess — so I can't see you on the early list, but honestly that happens all the time. We'll get you sorted right here, takes about thirty seconds.”

No error screen and no error words. The form comes up with her name already filled in.

Ash“Perfect — got it. Just creating your rego now…”

She stays quiet while the guest types, but keeps listening.

Ash“You're officially on the list, and that's your run sheet on WhatsApp. Really glad you came, Jess — have a good one!”

Walk-ins get the warmer goodbye.

Ash“Got it — @jesscarmody, and 0402 118 446.”

Guests can say their details instead of typing, and she fills in the boxes.

Ash“Maddie Kwan — yep, there you are. That all look right?”

Their record opens for editing. Once they save, she checks them in straight away without asking again.

She stops talking mid-word as soon as the guest speaks.

Ash“Beautiful, you're quick. Locking it in now… and sent. Run sheet's on your phone, Priya.”
